When I select the first layout of home middle section, something goes wrong, there are some blanks under the left column

You need to regenerate the thumbnail after you switch the theme. Here is the plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/
Basically uploading size greater than 500×500 would work for all the sections.
